Here is another article that is a bit out of the ordinary. It should serve as a suggestion for the varied design of the basic training.

The project

The 2019/2020 season offered practically no opportunity for me to train on cross-country skis. Therefore, I used and use the roller ski very intensively. In recent weeks, I had the opportunity to try out different training routes or to intensify the use. With mass I moved for this purpose on the Tempelhof Field or along the Teltow Channel.

Through a hint I became aware of the Flaeming Skate. I was already familiar with the corresponding signs on the southern section of the A 10.

No sooner said than done. On the Berlin holiday commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, I set out to do a training session at Flaeming Skate.

Track

I got the basic information about the track here http://www.flaeming-skate.de/de/startseite.php fetched. On this page there is the necessary basic information and the various routes as gps - track. I have decided for the circuit 5 (RK5). This offered a (for me) challenging distance of 50.55 km, as well as a track of almost continuous 3m width. Other circuits from 10 km to 100 km are offered. I downloaded the gps - track and transferred it to my sports watch (Polar V800). In addition, I have previously studied the route in the available online maps and searched for a suitable entry point (Kolzenburg Skate-Point).

Unfortunately, you have to travel from Berlin, for example, by car. However, a journey by public transport is also possible.

I decided to complete the RK5 clockwise, since this direction was indicated by the gps - track so. Thus my way led me first to EAST. It started with mixed terrain in the forest and across fields. Then a local passage through Jänickendorf. Here was a little attention required, because the route was provided with a few obstacles for the ski rollers. Another local passage in Holbeck and past the Holbecker lake. Stülpe is passed south and turned SOUTH. Continuing south through mixed terrain passing Ließen and Petkus. In the area of the village Wahlsdorf the route turned WEST and led to the mountain village Schlenzer, 143 m.a.s.l.. A few more kilometers in the western direction and again turned to NORTH. Here we passed the country inn Jüterburg. The last kilometers then lead to NORTH and shortly before the end of the circuit is once again turned to EAST to arrive back at the starting point in Kolzenburg.

The mass of the track is excellent asphalt of varying quality in sufficient width. I liked best the slightly rough places, because there the tips of the poles could find the best grip. Mostly you glide along level or in gentle climbs or descents. I unbuckled a total of three times for safety reasons and walked a few feet downhill. Such places are always excellently marked as dangerous descents. The track was clean. A little attention had to be paid to some pine cones.

In the morning I was still mostly alone on the road. On the last 10 km then came more and more inline skaters and cyclists. All users of the skate routes have taken into account each other!

The combined signage and use of wayfinding on the Polar V800 make getting lost virtually impossible.

With the way from the parking lot and back to the track, I had at the end 52.42 km on the clock to stand, with a total of 175 meters of altitude were overcome.

Things to see and know

What is there to discover while skating/rollerblading on the Flaeming Skate RK5?

Besides the sporting aspect of completing the route, you can collect many impressions.

Particularly outstanding was the experience of Brandenburg's nature. There is more than plenty of it!

I was particularly impressed by the changing passages through fragrant pine forests and across seemingly endless fields. That was pure nature!

I have often had to think of the Brandenburg Hymn and now understand even better how it came about.

In addition, there are several historical witnesses, such as the war memorials in the villages passed through.

Furthermore, almost unnoticed, one moves on the site of the former military area of Forst-Zinna (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forst_Zinna), to which one is pointed out by inconspicuous signs.

Finish

In summary, I would like to recommend the RK 5 of the Flaeming Skate without reservation. The other RK would still have to be explored accordingly. In particular, the variety compared to the training on the Tempelhof Field or at the Teltow Channel is wonderful.

In any case, I recommend roller skis with somewhat larger rollers, since there is nevertheless the one or other transverse groove.

Breaks can be taken anywhere. There are also enough places where you can grab food. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, not all options were open.

The picture gallery is intended to give a small insight into the tour. The pictures are not sorted and can be viewed enlarged by clicking.

I hope you have fun running after it!
